Jason Paige - Competitive Swimming Director
|
Jason came to New Canaan in the year
of 2000 as the Head Senior Coach. He accepted the position of Head
Coach in 2002. Since his start at New Canaan he has developed Spring
National Qualifiers, Junior National Qualifiers, US Open qualifiers,
numerous Sectional Championship qualifiers, as well as a Sectional
Champion, and over 100 YMCA All-Americans.
Jason
works to promote a positive team atmosphere and in the summer of
2007 he led the NCY Caiman Swim Team to a third place finish at the
Long Course YMCA National Championships. Under Jason's
guidance the men's team has won the Connecticut Senior Open
Championships in 2006 and in 2007. |

He has also exposed
New Canaan to open water swimming. Jason served on the USA Open Water
Swimming Committee, and works with many tri-athletes and other open water
swimmers. He has worked with two individuals that have successfully
crossed the English Channel, and led the NCY Caiman men's team to a
National Championship in the USA Swimming 10K Open Water Championship in
2001. Since then Jason has guided a mixed team to a second place
finish in 2003 and a men's team to a second place finish in 2005 in the
10K event.
Jason is also the
Head Coach of the New Canaan High School Boys Swim Team, where he has led
the NCHS Rams to three Class M State Championships, a FCIAC championship and
a State Open Championship. He
has developed numerous All-American, All-State and All-County swimmers, and
his boy's team was ranked number one in the nation for a small public
school in 2006 and 2007. Jason
was named the Boys Swimming Coach of the Year for his efforts by the CISCA
in 2005.
Jason graduated from
St. Bonaventure University in 1998. While at SBU he was a two time Atlantic
10 champion in the 200 Freestyle Relay and an eight time finalist in the
100yd Breaststroke and sprint Freestyle events. Before coming to New Canaan,
Jason worked as an assistant coach at both the University of Connecticut and
Southern Connecticut State University while earning his Masters of Arts
degree in Education with a concentration in Sport Management from UConn.
During his tenure at those Universities he has worked with Big East
champions, NCAA Division II champions, Junior and Senior National finalists
as well as Olympic Trials qualifiers. Jason can be reached

Alicia Remesz-Guerrette - Assistant Competitive Swimming

This is Alicia's
Third Year with the Caimans.
In the past 3 years Alicia has been the Head Age Group
coach and has seen the program grow in great strides. Alicia has
developed many CT Age group qualifiers, YMCA New England
Qualifiers, CT Age Group Champions, and YMCA New England
Champions. This past summer (2009) Alicia was selected to
represent Connecticut Swimming at the Eastern Zone Age Group
Championships.
Alicia is
originally from Connecticut, but started her coaching career in
Michigan where she was an assistant Age Group Coach for Club
Wolverine in Ann Arbor. Along
with her coaching experience, Alicia brings over fifteen years
of competitive swimming knowledge to the Caimans.

Alicia earned a degree from
Niagara University in Sports Management where she swam all four
years for the Division I Purple Eagles.

John Spadafina - Assistant
Competitive and Volunteer Director

Coach John is entering his 2nd
season with the Caimans swim team. John coach’s the senior level swimmers.
John has coached this past season many CT Senior Qualifiers, CT Age Group
Qualifiers, Numerous Eastern Zone Qualifiers, NCY team record breakers, CT
Age Group Champions and YMCA National Qualifiers. Coach John also assists
with Coach Jason’s group working with the swimmers from CT senior
Qualifiers to Junior National qualifiers. This past long course season
(2009), John was selected to be an assistant coach representing Connecticut
Swimming at the Eastern Zone Age Group Championships.

Prior to coming to New Canaan,
John was as an assistant coach for the Cheshire Y/Sea Dog Swim club from
2007-2008 where he coached under Dan Mascolo. John in his three seasons in
Cheshire has worked with the junior and age group level teams. The last two
seasons, John has developed numerous CT age group qualifiers, four CT age
group Champions, and two CT zone qualifiers.
Prior coming to Cheshire, John was the Head Age Group
coach and assistant coach for the Omni Swim club from 2004-2006. John
coached many age group qualifiers, and an age group champion. John also
assisted Head Coach Tim Wise with the senior and college level swimmers.
John started his coaching career in 2002 where he coached the Farmington
Valley Swim team.
In 2003, John graduated with a
Bachelors Degree in History from Central Connecticut State University where
he swam for the Blue Devils and served as the team captain in 2001-2002.
John, a Staten Island, NY native swam for the Blue Arrow Swim club. After
graduating from Central Connecticut, John had been working in the human
service field as a child care counselor, student intervention specialist,
and recently as a residential supervisor.

Dave Fine -
Assistant
Senior and National Coach

Dave is entering his 8th
year for the Caimans. Dave coaches the senior and national teams.
Dave has been the New Canaan High School girls head coach for the
last 5 years and is the New Canaan High School boy’s assistant
coach for the past 6 years.
Dave graduated from the University of Miami in 2001
where he swam for the Hurricanes. Dave is currently a Math
teacher at New Canaan High School. He has been teaching since 2002.

Chris Riley -
Assistant
Age Group Coach
|
Chris
is returning for his 7th year with the Caimans. Chris has coached swimming since 1973. He formed the Weston Swim Club and also coached both the boy
and girl swim teams at Weston High School.
During his tenure at Weston, Chris's teams captured 11
Boys State Championships and 7 Girls State Championships.
He was named National High School Coach of the Year in
1986 and 1991. Chris
was also Connecticut High School Coach of the Year in 1985,
1987, 1992 and 1996. He
has coached numerous All State, All American, Junior Olympic,
Senior National, and Olympic Trail Qualifiers.

Chris also spent one year (1989) as the top
assistant to Ernie Maglischo at Cal State Bakersfield.
Coach Maglischo is known to be the top stroke technique
coach in the world. Cal
State Bakersfield won the NCCA National Championship that year. Chris
is currently teaching Improving Human Performance and Physical
Education at Weston High School.
Drew
Kingman – Assistant Age Group Coach

This is Drew’s 2nd year coaching
with the Caimans. A transfer from Fairfield University where
he set numerous school records, he will be attending Southern
Connecticut in the fall. Drew will be working with all aspects
of our age group program and out non competitive programs.
A
native of Wilton, CT, Drew previously swam for the Caimans.
During his tenure as a Caiman swimmer, he represented the team at
the 2005 Open Water Championships, and helped the Men’s Team to
Connecticut Senior Open Championships in 2006 and 2007. |

Kat
Munson - 8/Under Coach
Kat is entering her 2nd
year with the Caimans. Kat will be working with our Gold and Silver teams as
well as assisting with our age group program. Kat came to us from the New
Fairfield Aqua Flyers. Kat for the past 2 years has been the New Canaan High
School girls assistant swim coach and this summer coached at the New Canaan
Field Club.
Kat
graduated from Bucknell University in 2007 where she swam for the Bison. Kat
was the school record holder in the 200 fly. She is currently an English
teacher at New Canaan High School.
