LONG COURSE GROUP DESCRIPTIONS

• Pre-Team (8 years old and Under)

This non-competitive team is for children eight years old and younger and is development in nature.  This team is a bridge between Y Swim lessons and the NCYAC.  Focus is on the development of proper body alignment and stroke technique.  Must be able to swim 25 yards freestyle and backstroke without stopping.  Season concludes at the end of the school year.

• Red Team (8 years old and Under)

This competitive 8/U team is for swimmers that can demonstrate legal stroke mechanics in the four competitive strokes.  Season concludes at the end of the school year. 

• Bronze Team (9 years old and Under)

This competitive 9/U team is for swimmers who will be turning 9 for the upcoming short course season, or have shown high levels of ability.  Season concludes at the end of the school year. 

• Silver Team (9-12 years old)

This team is for swimmers between the ages of 9-12 that will not attend Long Course Championship meets.  Season will conclude with the OMNI Invitational June 21-22.

• Gold Team (9-13 years old)

This competitive team is for swimmers between the ages of 9-13 that will compete in Long Course Championship meets, as well as attend Long Course practices during the summer months.  Their season will conclude in late July with Regionals or Age Group Championships.  Participation in Zones will be encouraged.

• Senior Team (13 and Over)

This team is for the advanced age group and young senior swimmer.  The focus of this team is directed toward building a strong foundation through aerobic training and continued stroke technique development in order to ensure a successful transition to the next level.  This team will compete in intersquad, YMCA duel meets, USA meets and championships. 

• National Team (13 and Over)

For highly motivated and determined swimmers who desire improvement and wish to compete at the National level.  The team's focus is on complete physical development through rigorous dryl land training and aerobic based swim practices, as well as continued stroke technique and mental debelopment.  All members of this team are expected to compete in the highest level of qualified competition, and attend 90% of practices.  Swimmers must have a least one AA time to be eligible for the National Team.
